Tahiti is the largest island in French Polynesia, located in the Society Islands in the southern Pacific Ocean. The island has a population of 169 677 lives according to the Population Census 2002, and is the most populous island in French Polynesia (69% of the total population). The capital is Papeete, is located on the northeast coast. Tahiti also known as Otaheite.
